The tenth round of the Derby City Classic one-pocket event finished late on Thursday evening, leaving only four remaining players. The matches were as follows:Dee Atkins d. Cliff JoynerLarry Nevel d. Scott FrostJose Parica d. Charles BryantCliff Joyner, last year's champion in the one-pocket event, was eliminated after his loss to Atkins. Scott Frost is still in because of his buy-back option. Friday's matches kick off at 1 PM and are as follows:Scott Frost vs. Dee AtkinsLarry Nevel vs. Jose ParicaParica and Nevel both are undefeated and have the option to buy back in if they are defeated on Friday afternoon.
The featured match of Round Three of the 9-ball event was between Hall-of-Famer Nick Varner, who recently won the Glass City Open, and Evgeny "The Assasin" Stalev of Russia. The match, which began at 11 PM Thursday evening, started off with Stalev getting to a 3-1 lead before Varner tied it up at 3-all. However, after a safety that went awry and a couple of scratches by Varner, Stalev was soon able to win the match by the score of 7-4.
