Lawson Wins Viking Amateur StopBy Bill RosenbergerFor the second time in a row, the Viking Cue Amateur 9-Ball Tour wrestled a field of more than 40 players, leading to another successful Sunday. The event, held December 12, 2004, at B-Mer's Billiards in Talmadge, OH, drew 44 amateurs, all vying for the top spot. Heading into the late rounds, it looked to be anyone's tournament to win, but a few emerged ahead of the rest. Marty Lawson and Kurt England battled first in the hot seat, with Lawson extending his undefeated record with a 5-1 win and a spot in the finals. Meanwhile, Jim Davis, who had been knocked to the west side by Lawson in the third round, advanced all the way back to the semifinals and was a win away from the finals. England's game fell off again as Davis won 5-2.In the finals, Davis was hoping to avenge his earlier loss to Lawson, but to no avail. Lawson finished off his undefeated tourney with a 5-2 win.
