Lloyd Captures the First Hunter Classics Tour Stop

Both the weather and shooting were beautiful the weekend of March 3-4 in Lake Jackson, TX, where the Hunter Classics Tour made their first stop of the billiards season. Forty-two women billiard players ventured down to Shooters II, with Heather Lloyd double-dipping Lisa Marr to make an exciting finale for the crowd.
Tournament participants were from all over the U.S., including regular tour members from Texas, Arkansas, Colorado, and new members Kathleen Lawless from Philadelphia, PA, and Lisa D’Atri from Fairfax, CA. Marr, from Little Rock, AR, was out in full force as she wanted to repeat her win last year at Shooters II. By day’s end, Marr and 11 other tournament hopefuls would return on Sunday to continue their quest for the first-place prize. Included on the winners’ side along with Marr were Leslie Anne Rogers, 2001-2005 Hunter Tour champion from Arlington, TX; Tara “Firecracker” McCracken; and Kim Pierce. On the left side of the bracket were board members Melinda Hinojosa and Helen Hayes, Samm Diep, Jennifer Kraber, Kathleen Lawless, Tasha Salandanan, Lloyd, and Michelle Yim.
As the main event continued on Sunday, the finals came down to Marr and the “never give up attitude” of Heather Lloyd. On Saturday, Lloyd won her first match of the day but then lost to Helen Hayes. From that point on, Lloyd never looked back and played eight consecutive (and tough) matches to vie for a shot in the finals against Marr. Additionally, in true double-elimination format, Lloyd had to defeat Marr twice to win the tournament, and that is exactly what she did. Lloyd won the first set 7-4 and then the second set 7-6 in an incredible hill-hill finale match.
Our next stop is at Magoo’s Billiards, in Tulsa, OK, March 31-April 1. The qualifier for this event is a paid entry into in the May 13-19 Enjoypool.com 9-Ball Championships in Las Vegas.
