Lopsided Matches in Second Round of Billiards Tournament“Rocket” Rodney Morris and Mika Immonen were done with their second-round matches in no time, winning 8-3 and 8-2, respectively. Morris had just survived a hill-hill bout with Hall of Fame member Efren Reyes in the first round but seemed to have recovered well from the “nerves” that affected him then. Ortmann didn’t get to see much of the table, for Morris broke and ran out 6 racks total of the eight he won. Ortmann, though, is still leading the break and run-out stats with a total of 85 for the week, while Morris has 81.IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship ForumsVisit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image GalleryImmonen, who had just spent the previous match sitting in his chair as Dennis Orcollo broke and ran out seven of the eight racks played, came back with a vengeance against Deuel. He won the first four games in a row—three break and run-outs—traded the next four racks with Deuel, and then took the last three to win the match.
“It was really brutal, the first match,” Immonen reported. “He was getting really lucky on the break, too. He hit it a couple of times really bad, and nothing was going in, but then some balls at the bottom rail would just collide into each other. Even the lag was funny. I was on this side, and he was right in my face! He caught me off guard, so when I lagged, I only ended like half table. So he runs five racks just because I was caught in a weird situation. I told him that you gotta give some room when the other guy’s lagging. He was right in the middle or something. And then I had one shot, and he called a referee, and so it really pissed me off, having one shot and missing, and then he runs the set out eight-zero. I had to really collect myself after that match.“Playing Corey on this IPT I have a pretty good track record—that was the fifth time I’ve beat him in a row. The last four times I’ve beat him eight-three, and this time eight-two. Corey—I don’t think he likes playing me.” The longest match of the second round was the all-Filipino set between Efren Reyes and Dennis Orcollo. After Orcollo’s incredible display in the first round, no one knew what to expect, but “The Magician” prevailed. Orcollo, down 5-2 at the beginning, crept back into the match in the latter half but still didn’t have enough firepower to overcome Reyes, who ultimately took the match 8-6. Both players had three break and run-outs during the set.In the third round, Ortmann will play Orcollo on the TV table, while Morris meets Deuel and Immonen faces off with Reyes.Quick LinksPlayer StatsPrize Money Breakdown Round 6 GROUP 82R.
