Matlock Locks Up Shooters and Goes Undefeatedby Rick DavisFighting through three long days and nights of play, David Matlock finished undefeated at the open 9-ball event taking place July 7-9 at Shooters Billiards in Olathe, KS. In total, 103 entries came to compete in the double-elimination, race-to-9 event that took place on the heels of a one-pocket tournament and ran side-by-side with a ladies’ event.Matlock slowly crept through the winners’ side, taking six matches then the hot seat. In all but two of his matches he gave up less then three racks until the hot seat match, where he defeated James Baraks 9-7. Action on the one-loss side was just as rough as the top six players were still alive as play reached the late evening. Mike Banks Jr., a local top gun at 18 years old, defeated James Walden 9-7, while Josh Johnson bested Rusty Capes 9-5.
In the next round, Johnson defeated Banks Jr. 9-4.
