McCaughey Undefeated at Snooker's Pool LoungeJoss Northeast 9-Ball Tour / Providence, RIby Rick DavisThe Joss Northeast Tour swung into Snooker’s Pool Lounge in Providence, RI, where Jay McCaughey swept the field, taking the event undefeated. A strong 44-player field entered the double-elimination 9-ball action over the November 18 weekend, and before long only a handful remained. With the field down to the top eight, Mike Dechaine met McCaughey while Dave Fernandez faced Paul Dryden, all on the winners’ side. Meanwhile, Sean Morgan matched up with Tony Ruberto as Shin Park met with Bob Begey, each on the one-loss side.
McCaughey strolled past Dechaine 9-5, but Fernandez did one rack better against Dryden, defeating him 9-4. On the one-loss side Ruberto slipped past Morgan double-hill, and Begey crept past Park 9-7. In the next round Dryden eliminated Begey 9-8, and Dechaine knocked out Ruberto 9-6 to bring the field to the top four.Fighting for the hot seatm, McCaughey battled with Fernandez and came out on top just shy of going double-hill. Next, Dryden defeated Dechaine 9-7 in the quarterfinals but was steamrolled by Fernandez 9-4 in the semifinals. Trying to take advantage of the opportunity for a rematch, Fernandez defeated McCaughey 9-6 in the first set of the finals, and although the second set was close, McCaughey kept just out of reach as he closed out the match 9-7 to claim first place. The next tour stop will visit Diamond Eight Billiards in Latham, NY, over the December 2 weekend.Results:1st Jay McCaughey2nd Dave Fernandez3rd Paul Dryden4th Mike Dechaine5th Tony RubertoBob Begey7th Sean MorganShin Park
