McCreesh Sends McCready to the Brutal BracketBy InsidePOOL StaffIn the featured match for Day one of the 29th Annual U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship, Ryan McCreesh met “Earthquake” Keith McCready on the television table and sent him to the one-loss side with an 11-8 victory. With the audience firmly behind McCready in the race to 11, McCreesh took the first game with a 4-9 carom shot that sent the 9 smoothly into the corner pocket. From there, it was nip and tuck, with neither player gaining more than a two-game lead throughout the match. With a couple of misses on the 9, McCready was at a disadvantage, and it wasn’t long before McCreesh began making the balls disappear. Up 8-6, the confidence of “The Genie Man” had increased dramatically under the hot TV lights that were making both players sweat. “Ho! Take your places!” he shouted after breaking.
He missed a 4 ball in that rack, and McCready tied up the match at 8 apiece. “You guys wanna start this one over?” McCready asked the crowd. It might have had a different outcome, but as it was, McCreesh capitalized on two missed balls by McCready in the next two racks to reach the hill. He only made one ball on his last break, but that proved to be enough, as he ran out with the balls gliding into the pockets to win 11-8.
