McCreesh Takes off NorthEast Players TourBy InsidePOOL StaffAfter a grueling hill-hill battle in the final match, Ryan McCreesh defeated Pat McNally at the NorthEast Players Tour stop at American Billiards in Quakerstown, PA, on June 29, 2003. A total of 47 tournament-tough contenders voyaged to the $550-added event, run by tournament director Leon Mroz.In the hot seat match, McNally and Don Steele, a player from Greensburg, PA, who is a former Pennsylvania State 8-Ball Champion and a regular on the Senior Tour, battled it out, with McNally sending Steele to the one-loss side.
McCreesh lost to McNally in the one-loss side of the bracket earlier in the event, only to fight his way through some challenging competitors to make it to the finals. He sent Shawn Wilkie home with a fourth-place finish and went on to meet Steele, relegating him to third place and setting up a rematch with McNally. The final match consisted of a race to 9, and no one had more than a two-game lead during this nail-biting event. At 5-all, McCreesh announced, "We got a grudge match!" Finally, with the score at hill-hill, McNally broke and scratched. McCreesh wisely chose to play safe, and McNally missed an attempted kick shot. Unfortunately for him, this lined up a nice 1-9 carom for McCreesh, which he made for the 9-8 win, collecting $675 and a trophy. The next NorthEast Players Tour stop will be held on July 27, 2003, at Boulevard Billiards in Allentown, PA. 1st - Ryan McCreesh2nd - Pat McNally3rd - Don Steele4th - Shawn Wilkie5th/6th - Lee Holt, Phil Sherman7th/8th - Mike Miller, Lou Gagliano
