McDermott All American Hits Las Vegas Cue Club
The January 19-21 weekend featured four 2006/2007 McDermott All American Tour stops around the country, one of them being a $500 added 8-ball event with thirty players, hosted by owner Henry Nogiec and director Greg Kuhl at the Las Vegas Cue Club in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday.
The American CueSports Alliance-produced event featured a double-elimination format on Global 7-footers, and Henry Nogiec ran undefeated to the finals. In the hot-seat match, Nogiec – rated a “6” on a local handicap system used - outpointed Edgar Jackson , rated a “5”, 6-2.
Earlier in the A-bracket semi-finals, Henry had clipped Jim Murphy [5] , 6-1, and Edgar sprinted past Bruce Barrett [4] 5-2. Early-round loser Gary Onomura [6] continued on a tear in the B-bracket by eliminating Barrett [4] 6-2 in the quarterfinals, Rick White [6] 6-1 in the semifinals; and Edgar Jackson [5] 6-4 in the finals. The tourney finals showcased Onomura and Nogiec, with Gary Onomura taking two tight sets for the title, 6-4 and hill-hill 6-5!
By virtue of Gary Onomura being the highest-finishing ACS member, he qualified for a free singles entry into the 2007 ACS Nationals in Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS. The ACS wishes to thank sponsors McDermott Handcrafted Cues, Silver Cup Chalk, Billiard Wholesalers and Pro Series Cases for their support in donating “Value-In-Kind” product for this and all stops on the McDermott All American Tour.
