Out of the 48 players, McDougall zipped through the bracket like an arrow straight to the finish.McDougall came up against Ken Botham in the match for the hot seat and was leading 6-3 in the race to 7 when Botham mounted a comeback. Tied hill-hill, a two-rail position shot proved fatal for Botham when the cue floated into the side pocket, and McDougall won the match.
On the west side of the chart, Mike Patrowicz was fighting his way through, defeating Jason Warren hill-hill to advance to the quarterfinal match against Paul Tytler, who ended Patrowicz’s event 8-5. Now moving on to the semifinals, Tytler met a determined Botham but scored a convincing 7-4 win to advance to the finals.
