Music City's Midnight Madness, a single-elimination winner-take-all mini tournament, went off on Sunday morning. The event is limited to 8 players, and an interesting note about it is that no player is allowed to pay his own entry fee, which is a substantial $500. In the first round, Scott "The Freezer" Frost, who had been eliminated from the Open by Marcus Chamat, matched up with Shannon Daulton (pictured to the right), who defeated him 11-9. Johnny Archer and Rafael Martinez met, with Archer coming out the victor 11-8. Hall-Of-Famer Nick Varner defeated Marcus Chamat by the score of 11-4, and Jose Parica eliminated Cliff Joyner by 11-4 as well.In the second round, Archer played a tight match against Varner, ultimately winning 11-9, while Daulton continued his ramage through the bracket and defeated Parica 11-8. The finals between Archer and Daulton was a grueling hill-hill match, with Daulton ending up in the winner's circle, 11-10.
The women's event is winding down, with only three ladies left. The hot seat match between Helena Thornfeldt and Monica Webb, last year's champion, ended in a 7-4 win for Thornfeldt. In the one-loss side, Pam Bell (pictured to the right), the BCA Women's Masters Champion, eliminated Nicole Mancini by the score of 7-5. Mancini settled for fourth place, while Bell will challenge Webb at 3 PM Sunday.
