Moore Earns Hot Seat, Stone Advances at Viking Billiard Tournamentby Inside POOL StaffDuluth, GA, billiards player Steve Moore just won the hot seat match over Dennis Hatch at the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour's National Championship event. He started off the race to 11 by dropping the 9 ball on the break, and though the score was knotted at 3 apiece at one point, that was the closest Hatch could get to the hometown favorite. Moore simply outplayed his opponent, who sat restlessly in a chair nearby as he watched Moore scoop the match 11-4.Viking Tour Championship photo gallery
After a harrowing 11-9 defeat of Sparky Ferrell in the one-loss side, Johnny Archer went on to match up with Stoney Stone in the quarterfinals. "I played well," asserted Archer. "I can't argue with the way I played. I made some really tough outs. Sparky played well—he did. It was just one of those matches where whoever blinked first … I think when it was nine-seven he broke and didn't make anything—I made a really good out and won the game. I ran every rack from there. The shots came at the right times." Stone had defeated Chris Bartram in another close 11-9 match to meet Archer. Archer was looking for revenge, as Stone was the player who knocked him into the one-loss side Friday evening after a double-hill thriller, but he went away instead with fourth place, as Stone came out ahead again 11-6.Stone and Hatch will now play in the semifinal match. One will go home with third place, and the winner will advance to try to defeat Moore two sets in the finals, as the Viking Tour uses a double-elimination format.
