Moore Goes Nearly Undefeated in Billiard Tournamentby Rick DavisThe Great Southern 8-Ball Tour visited Sporty’s in Greenville, SC, during the August 26-27 weekend, where a talented field of 33 players competed. Among the WPBA and IPT pros, Steve Moore came out on top, losing only one set. The winners’ side top eight assembled on Sunday, where Tony Watson defeated Shannon “The Cannon” Daulton then Gabe Owen to reach the hot seat match. The other side of the bracket had Steve Moore best Bill Bailey then Danny Turner.
On the one-loss side Monica Webb tried to stay alive but was eliminated by Bill Bailey, who held out another round before getting the pink slip from Owen. Helena Thornfeldt followed in the steps of her fellow WPBA player and could not escape more than one round, being eliminated by Paul Song. Song then glided past Turner, although he was then out of ammo as Owen eliminated him. Down to the top four after eliminating Song, Owen then waited for the winner’s-side finals to finish. Moore took a rest in the hot seat after sending Watson to face Owen, who eliminated him and came back to face Moore in the finals. Coming back from the one-loss side meant Watson had to defeat Moore twice, which he looked ready to do. Watson took an amazing first set 6-0, in which Moore got to shoot once—and there was no good shot. Daulton, the tournament director, commented, “He’s shooting lights out, fast as he can.” After a long weekend it all came down to the final set, with Moore rebounding from the shutout in the first set to claim first prize.
