More Action at Music City

The field is narrowing even further at JOB Billiards' Music City Open. This evening saw the departure of eight more fine players. In the one-loss bracket, Johnny "The Scorpion" Archer defeated Rusty Jackson soundly by the score of 11-4. Max Eberle won his match against Lance Ireland by a solid 11-2. Bar box player Scotty Townsend won his match against Bobby Brown 11-5. Jose Parica faced off with Danny Harriman, Derby City Classic's 9-ball banks champ, and won 11-9. Troy Frank (pictured to the right) defeated West Coast player Barry Emerson 11-6. Billy Young, a talented local player and accomplished cue repairman, sent Amar Kang packing with an 11-2 win. And Scott Frost is still in the running to retain his title, defeating Bobby Pickle 11-7.
In the winners' bracket, Shawn Putnam (pictured below to the left) and Jimmy Reid fought a sluggish battle that ended in an 11-9 win for Putnam, "The Love Sponge." As a surprise victory, Oklahoma player Gabe Owen defeated Rafael Martinez in a tight match 11-10. Cliff Joyner defeated road player Bryce Avila by the score of 11-3. And Shannon "The Cannon" Daulton won his match against Scott Hafley in another close match 11-10. Daulton had been down 5-0, then 7-2, and then 10-5 before he ran the set out. "I got away with it; that's all that matters," he said afterwards. The women's event began this evening as well, with 25 ladies participating in the event. The tournament drew such notable players as Helena Thornfeldt, Monica Webb, Belinda Campos (pictured below to the right), Neslie O'Hare, and Toni Varner.Additionally, the scotch doubles event got under way late this evening. A dozen teams are competing in this event, which will pay the top two spots.The winners' matches on Saturday evening will be Gabe Owen versus Shawn Putnam and Cliff Joyner versus Shannon Daulton.
