Morris Rockets His Way to the Top J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour / Spring Hill, FL
by InsidePOOL Staff
"Rocket" Rodney Morris shot to the top of the J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour's January 28 stop, taking precedence over a tough field of 32 billiards players. Hosted by Capone's Billiard Lounge in Spring Hill, FL, this event boasted a $1,000-added payout.
Gail Grecar and Mitch Bredlove earned $50 each for being the top woman and junior finishers in the event, and on Day Two, the money matches began. In the hot seat match, Morris fought off Florida player Donnie Mills 9-5, while in the quarterfinals, UK transplant Tony "The Sniper" Crosby defended his position against recent Reno Open champ Richie Orem 9-7. Crosby moved on to meet Mills in the semis but faltered in his hopes to reach the final match 9-7. Mills and Morris had a long, drawn-out battle, but it ended with Morris defending his home turf and taking the title 11-9.
