Morris is the Most on the Florida Pro TourBy Richard DavisEarly evening Sunday the semifinals were underway at the Seminole Florida Pro Tour’s seventh stop of the season. The first match gave third place to the loser, and the winner went on to face “Rocket” Rodney Morris. The semifinals placed Luis Viera against Donnie Mills, who took an early lead of 3-1. Then both players took a game, making it 4-2. Mills took another with a sweet 5-9 carom, and then Viera took two making it 5-4. Mills then took the next two but Viera answered back with a quick win. Mills took the next game with a 1-9 combo, putting him on the hill. Even as Viera took another game with a 5-9 combo, Mills finished him off for a 9-6 victory.
The final match pitted Mills against Morris for the second time today, although this time the stakes were higher, and it was a single race to 13. Morris started with a break-and-run, only to have Mills win two quick games. Morris then took four straight racks, including two more break-and-runs, taking the lead again 5-2. They traded games until it reached 6-4 but then Morris took another two games with the help of a 4-9 combo. Two more games later, Mills jumped the cue off the table with only two balls left, giving Morris ball in hand on the 8 and 9, bringing the score to 10-4. Again they traded until it was 12-6 with Morris on the hill. Mills tried to fight back, winning the next three in a row, but in the end Morris took the last game he needed to win the event 13-9.Results:1st Rodney Morris $3,0002nd Donnie Mills $1,8003rd Luis Viera $1,3004th Robb Saez $1,0005th Rich Broumpton, Mario Cruz $6007th Richie Richeson, Ronnie Wiseman $4509th Ray Martin, Marrek Derrek, George McLanahan, John DiToro $300 Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news from the sport of billiards and pool.
