Mully's Billiards Celebrates Another YearBy Bill RosenbergerFor the past 12 years, Dan and Terri Mulhollen, owners of Mully's Billiards in Johnstown, PA, celebrate their pool hall's success with the Flood City 9-Ball Championship. This year, 30 "B"-"C" players joined the owners in ringing in yet another year of business. The February 26-27 event drew a smaller field that usual, but Mulhollen attributed it to various league events that have taken place in the past couple of weeks. Still, the event went off smoothly, and everyone had a good time. "This was our smallest field, but it was still full of the best players from the tri-county area." Not only was Somerset, Cambria, and Bedford Counties, represented, but there was also a player from Westmoreland County in attendance. Three of those top players were the young Rob Clark, and two veterans, Dave Batrus and Sam King. But what impressed Mulhollen, who also ran the tournament, was that the handicaps of all of Sunday's money-match players were spread out.As the day dwindled down, Clark and Sam King advanced to the hot seat match undefeated, but only one of their records could stay that way. Clark made a stand, and King was forced to the one-loss side.King's opponent was Batrus, who had found the west side in his first match on Sunday. But he battled back through the bracket, and with his win over King, he advanced to the finals to face Clark. While Batrus' comeback was valiant, Clark's play was just too strong, and he took home the 2005 Flood City Championship.
