Music City Going StrongMidnight Madness Imminent by InsidePOOL StaffJOB Billiards in Madison, TN, is the place to be this weekend, as they are hosting the 20th Annual Music City 9-Ball Open. Tomorrow promises to bring back 48 of the country’s top pool players, with Midnight Madness beginning tonight at 12:00 a.m.Twenty-four women showed up to compete in the ladies’ event, but only a handful shone. WPBA regulars Sarah Rousey, Helena Thornfeldt, and defending champion Monica Webb appeared, and currently Thornfeldt and Webb are fighting for the hot seat.
Johnny Archer has suffered an 11-9 loss to Canada’s Jason Klatt, but that is one of the rare upsets in the event so far. Apparently his break is plaguing him, and he is not ending up with shots after the break. Brandon Ashcraft of Michigan bested Hall of Famer Buddy Hall in a seesaw battle earlier, and recent Derby City 9-Ball banks champ Steve Moore got taken down by “The Red Rocket” David Broxson. With Midnight Madness commencing in a few hours, 13 participants have, as yet, signed up. The format features a race to 11, single elimination, and the winner takes all—$8,000 with a full field. Signed on so far are Johnny Archer, Shannon Daulton, Jose Parica, Chris Bartram, Steve Moore, Shane Van Boening, Rodney Hammock, David Broxson, Chuck Raulston, Jonathan Pinegar, Chad Vilmont, Brandon Ashcraft, and Scotty Townsend.Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
