Noon Enjoys Undefeated Fury EventBy Bill RosenbergerRobert Noon was just one of 45 players in the Fury Florida Amateur 9-Ball Tour to play at Fast Break Billiards in Longwood, FL, on Sunday, October 17. But he was the only one who went undefeated on his way to a first-place finish. The large field made for a long day for those who survived round after round. Noon worked as quickly as he could in many of his matches, running racks and winning early. Louis Altes, who battled through the one-loss bracket after his second-round loss to 17-year-old Wayne Hutter, won nine straight matches to make his way back to the finals. Early in the day, though, an interesting pair emerged. Tamara Rademakees and René Peecers, a couple from Holland vacationing in Orlando, met in the third round after each won their first two matches. Rademakees, who finished tied for fifth, outplayed her boyfriend and won 7-4. Luckily for him, he played well enough in the west side to earn a tie for seventh place.Later in the day, Noon and Richard Murray met in the hot seat match. Murray had been involved in long, hard matches all day, playing to the hill several times. His fatigue caught up with him against Noon, and he fell 7-2. Murray made his way to the semifinals to face the streaking Altes, winner of eight straight matches. Both players showed great resilience, trading games back and forth until it reached the hill. Altes continued his winning ways by finishing off the final game for the 5-4 win. It appeared that either competitor could take the tournament, as both Noon and Altes were on long winning streaks. After trading the first few games, Altes pulled ahead 5-3. Interestingly enough, Altes broke the first three games and sunk the 1 ball each time but scratched each time as well. Down by two games, Noon played fiercely, giving Altes few opportunities to go on the offensive. He battled back to tie it at 5-all, and then he took off from there. Noon won the final six matches to take the tournament 9-5.
