No big surprises just yet, but things are only starting to heat up.One of today’s highlighted matches is Charlie “Hillbilly” Bryant against Robb Saez, but this isn’t a winners’ bracket match up. Both players fell in their second-round matches on Monday, and one will head home today.Last night, Bryant was bested by Shawn Putnam 11-7, while Rodney Morris trounced Saez by the same score. Most of the other top players will be in competition tonight. Putnam and Morris will square off at 9 p.m., along with Santos Sambajon Jr. versus Charles Blank, Jeremy Jones against Corey Deuel, and Mike Davis versus Luc Salvas.Updated Pittsburgh Image Gallery
Two hours earlier, at 7 p.m., Tony Robles will face Gabe Owen and Max Eberle will match up against Danny “Kid Delicious” Basavich. Robles advanced with a win over Jeff White on Monday, while Owen bested Robert Krull 11-7. Basavich was his usual self, shutting out Jay Paranich 11-0, and Salvas outlasted Blaine Sell 11-9.Other players staving off elimination today are Charlie “The Korean Dragon” Williams, who fell to former world champion Thorsten Hohmann 11-8. He is facing Ben Zimmer this afternoon.Frank Alvarez also fought off elimination today with an 11-10 win after falling to Eberle 11-5 on Monday. Finally, Johnny Archer, who drew a first-round bye, faces Brian Mahan tonight as well.While Thursday night’s final match should be a thrilling contest to watch, fans should pay attention to today’s matches, with some of the game’s best players squaring off against one another.
