Owen Looking Strong at the U.S OpenBy InsidePOOL StaffIn the last winners’ bracket match to end early on Saturday morning, Gabe Owen defeated Tony “The Silent Assassin” Robles in a hill-hill nailbiter that lasted until 2 a.m. Owen is one of four players remaining in the winners’ bracket at the 29th Annual U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship.Locked together in the match, which began at 11 p.m., Owen and Robles, the recent victor at the BCA Open 9-Ball Championship, seesawed to 9-all. There was still a substantial crowd consisting of players and fans. When Robles missed the 1 ball, Owen, who plays in the Midwest but hails from Tulsa, OK, was able to reach the hill confidently, but when he scratched on the break, Robles capitalized to make it a hill-hill match. The New York player was looking strong until he shot the 7 ball playing for two-rail position and scratched. With two easy balls on the table, he raked the rack, conceding the 11-10 win to Owen.
