Pagulayan Takes First Place at Hard Times SacramentoBy InsidePOOL StaffIn a one-set finals of the 9-ball event at Hard Times Sacramento's Summer Jamboree, Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan triumphed over Ismael "Morro" Paez 11-4 for first place. The 9-ball event, which began Friday, June 13, followed the one pocket event, which was won by Santos Sambajon, Jr. A total of 74 players turned up to try for the $5,000 first-place prize.Tournament director Jay Helfert said afterwards, "Alex was dominant throughout the tournament. He only missed one ball in the final match. Morro was up three to zero, and Alex beat him eleven to four. once he started to shoot, it was all over."
Pagulayan, who was the runner-up at the Western Canadian 9-Ball Championships last April and the runner-up in the U.S. Open last September, has been due for a first-place finish. He breezed through the winners' bracket the entire weekend, defeating Charlie Bryant in the hot seat match 9-5.
