Palmer’s day started in the fifth round of the winners’ bracket. His first opponent was Mexico native Rafael Martinez, who placed seventh in the 2003 Derby City Classic one-Pocket Division. Palmer defeated Martinez 3-2, relegating Martinez to fifth place.
After his match with Martinez, Palmer ascended to the sixth round where he played against 2003 Legends of one-Pocket champion Scott Frost. Frost just looked back at Palmer with a smirk and started to joke around with the first-place winner. When asked about his finals match, Frost said, “I missed the ball in hand, and it cost me two games.” But he summarized finishing second in this tournament in three words: “I got lucky.”Results:1st Billy Palmer $2,5002nd Scott Frost $1,6003rd Amar Kang $1,0004th Tony Chohan $8005th Rafael Martinez, Ian Costello $6507th Ernesto Dominguez, Mike Massey $4009th Bobby Hunter, John Schmidt, Ron Marshall, Joey Gebron $200 Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news from the sport of billiards and pool.
