Palmer Takes off Hard Times Jamboree one-Pocket Event Jamie Gonzales, InsidePOOL StaffThe Fifth Annual Summer Jamboree’s one-pocket event ended around 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, at Hard Times Billiards with San Francisco native Billy Palmer receiving his first-place winnings of $2,500 from his young son in an honorable presentation. Palmer’s day started in the fifth round of the winners’ bracket.  His first opponent was Mexico native Rafael Martinez, who placed seventh in the 2003 Derby City Classic one-Pocket Division.  Palmer defeated Martinez 3-2, relegating Martinez to fifth place.
After his match with Martinez, Palmer ascended to the sixth round where he played against 2003 Legends of one-Pocket champion Scott Frost.  Unfortunately for “The Freezer,” Frost made some fatal mistakes, resulting in his first loss of the event.  Frost lost to Palmer 3-1.Frost’s next match was in the tenth round of the one-loss bracket against strong local Amar Kang, who placed ninth in the 2004 Jay Swanson Memorial tournament. The players were tied 2-2 until Frost found his niche and won 3-2.He found himself again playing Palmer in the finals. But with Palmer playing a flawless game, Frost was defeated by Palmer 4-1.  His evening left him in second place of the Summer Jamboree and with $1,600 in his pocket.“Man, it feels good to defrost “The Freezer,” said Palmer with a great big grin.  Frost just looked back at Palmer with a smirk and started to joke around with the first-place winner.  When asked about his finals match, Frost said, “I missed the ball in hand, and it cost me two games.”  But he summarized finishing second in this tournament in three words: “I got lucky.”Results:1st Billy Palmer $2,5002nd Scott Frost $1,6003rd Amar Kang $1,0004th Tony Chohan $8005th Rafael Martinez, Ian Costello $6507th Ernesto Dominguez, Mike Massey $4009th Bobby Hunter, John Schmidt, Ron Marshall, Joey Gebron $200 Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news from the sport of billiards and pool.
