Pay Day for Hohmann on Florida Pro Tour Tori HiltyFormer world champion Thorsten Hohmann started his most recent trip to the States off with a bang by going undefeated to claim first place on the Florida Pro Tour on July 31-August 1, 2004. Traveling to the U.S. to participate in the International Challenge of Champions held the second week of August, the German rounded out a full field of 64 players. This $7,000-added event was sponsored by the Seminole Tribe of Florida and held at Planet 9 Ball in Tampa, FL.Charlie "Hillbilly" Bryant and David Bronxon battled it out, with Bryant moving ahead to the semifinals to face off against Tommy "The Gun" Kennedy. Kennedy was fresh from the hot seat match, where Hohmann took a convincing 9-3 win. Bryant and Kennedy played a tense match, keeping things relatively even throughout the match. With things tied at the hill, Kennedy grabbed the last rack, assuring a rematch with Hohmann in the finals.
Hohmann started the final match by taking the lead, at one point taking a four-point cushion at 9-5. A miscue on the 6 by Hohmann allowed Kennedy to make a comeback, see-sawing until he closed his deficit to within one rack of the German at 12-11. Kennedy blew his chance of tying it on the hill when he missed a tough cut on the 3, allowing Hohmann to the table to run out to take the 13-11 win. Results: 1st Thorsten Hohmann2nd Tommy Kennedy3rd Charlie Bryant4th David Bronxon5th Richie Richeson, Troy Frank7th Jimmy Wale, Brian Butler9th Buddy Hall, Shannon Daulton, Ray Martin, Charlie WilliamsVisit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
