Rempe Vanquishes Varner at Seminole Senior OpenBy InsidePOOL StaffIn a marathon match between two members of the BCA's Hall of Fame, Jim "King James" Rempe eliminated Nick Varner from the Greater Seminole Senior Open in Naples, FL, this evening. When their lengthy match reached hill-hill, Rempe buckled first with an untimely miss on the 3 ball, only to have it roll safe. Varner attempted to overcome the bad roll but relinquished the table to Rempe, who ran out for the 11-10 victory. In the other 7 PM one-loss bracket matches, Danny Medina defeated Dick Weaver 11-4. Peter LaFortune and Ricky Bingham, who have both been responsible for several upsets throughout the course of the event, were finally stopped in their tracks by Grady "The Professor" Mathews and Ray "Cool Cat" Martin, respectively.
In the winners' bracket matches at 9 PM, Jose "The Giant Killer" Parica played flawlessly against Wade Crane, punishing him 11-2. During the course of their match, Crane was only allowed at the table to kick or play safe. Dick Lane handily defeated fellow Texan Erman Bullard 11-4. In the 9 PM one-loss bracket matches, Medina defeated host and promoter Mathews 11-5, while Rempe challenged Martin. In the 11 PM matches, Crane plays Medina, and Bullard awaits the winner of the Rempe-Martin match. The winners of the 11 PM matches will join Parica and Lane on Sunday.
