Reyes Captures Mid-Atlantic Title

Efren Reyes triumphed at the Mid-Atlantic 9-Ball Tournament in Chesapeake, VA, earlier on Sunday afternoon. He played Korean champion Young Hwa-Jeoung in the finals, which was a rematch of the hot seat match, and won the event by the score of 11-5.The hot seat match began at 11 AM on Sunday morning, while Rodney Morris and Francisco Bustamante battled it out for fourth place across the way. Hwa-Jeoung jumped into the lead over Reyes from being tied at 2-all. Reyes got another game before Hwa-Jeoung's lead increased to 8-3 in the race to 11. Reyes came back to bring the score to 9-8 Hwa-Jeoung, but never won another game. Young Hwa-Jeoung won the match 11-8.Francisco Bustamante triumphed in his match with Rodney Morris 11-5, playing nearly as well as he did earlier in the tournament when he handed Morris his first loss. This win set up another rematch in the event between Bustamante and Reyes for third place, with the winner going on to challenge the undefeated Hwa-Jeoung. Bustamante never took the lead in that match, trailing Reyes by 9-5 before getting within a game of his opponent. At that point, Bustamante failed to make a ball on the break, and Reyes ran the next two and out to win 11-8.
The final match between Reyes and Hwa-Jeoung was a single extended race to 13. Hwa-Jeoung, currently ranked number one in Korea, won the lag but ended up giving the game to Reyes after a scratch. From there the two traded games until Reyes left Hwa-Jeoung behind with 4 games while he kept on, reaching 9 before Hwa-Jeoung got another game, making the score 9-5 Reyes. Reyes won the next two games as well and then scratched on the break, giving ball-in-hand to the Korean champion. Hwa-Jeoung ran out, making the score 11-6 Reyes. Unfortunately for Hwa-Jeoung, he scratched on the 5 ball attempting to get position on the 7, and Reyes reached the hill. The last game started off with both players missing a hanging 1 ball; after Hwa-Jeoung's miss, Reyes lined up perfectly for a 4-9 combo and won the match 13-6.
