Rim Finishes J. Pechauer Michigan Women's 9-Ball Tour on Top By Tori Hilty, InsidePOOL staff A total of 26 women came to test their skills at the final stop of the J. Pechauer Michigan Women's 9-Ball Tour held May 8-9, 2004, at Billiard Café in Battlecreek, MI. An exciting end to the season was made when tournament director Alice Rim triumphed in a rematch against Gail Grecar, who had sent her on a trip to the west side of the chart earlier in the event.Among the top players in attendance were Rim, Grecar, the feared Rachael Abbink, and co-director Julie Melman. In addition to this stop being the last of this season, it was also a qualifier for the WPBA Canadian Classic, to which Grecar won a paid entry. Fans will have a rest after these fireworks since the tour will not begin its new season until September.
Former pro player Jayme Goodwin owns this family-friendly room. There is a combination of 9-foot and bar tables to play on, all of which are very well maintained. A very friendly, helpful staff did their best to ensure the tournament ran smoothly, and the room also offers reasonable prices on concession-type foods like mini-pizzas and nachos. After being sent to the one-loss side by Grecar in the third round of the winners'-bracket matches, Rim faced off with Melman. In what could be called the match of tournament directors to determine who would get fourth place and who would continue on in the pursuit of the number-one spot, Rim easily advanced with a score of 7-4.Meanwhile Grecar and Abbink played out the hot seat match to determine who would be Rim's next contender. Grecar came to this point undefeated and continued her streak 7-5 over Abbink.Abbink and Rim greeted each other in the semis. Rim blasted ahead 3-0, but Abbink quickly put a stop to that by tying it up at 4 apiece. The score continued to seesaw until the score was knotted at 5 when Rim showed her stuff and won the next two racks to secure the win 7-5. This brought Rim through the west side of the chart to meet Grecar in the finals. Rim and Grecar kept the match pretty much neck-and-neck until the score was tied at 5-all. Rim then again got in the zone and won four games to Grecar's one to clinch the win 9-6.Results:1st Alice Rim $4252nd Gail Grecar $2753rd Rachael Abbink $1754th Julie Melman $1055th Tami Zetzer, Miyuki Sakai $857th Jennie Rounds, CJ Jerome $65Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
