Round 5 of the Derby City Classic 9-Ball Banks By InsidePOOL StaffRound 5 of the Sixth Annual Derby City Classic 9-ball banks division has ended, with Round 6 beginning early Sunday evening. From a total of 404 entrants, only 30 remain. The one-pocket division began earlier Sunday as well with 300 players.Jamie McWorter met InsidePOOL Magazine's Player of the Year, Johnny Archer, in Round 5 of the banks and came out on top. McWorter, a young player of exceptional talent who plays on the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour, was up 2-1 against "The Scorpion" when Archer made three balls on the break and then scratched. He made nothing in his next inning, and Archer made a nice two-rail shot, but from there it was all McWorter. Despite resistance from the table, which rattled at least four dead banks during the last game, he eventually got the 5 points needed to win the third game and the match 3-1.
Ralf Souquet and Grady "The Professor" Mathews matched up in Round 5. Mathews started off poorly, losing the first two games, but fought back to knot the score at 2. Souquet, perhaps tired from the late-night ring game the night previous, could only watch as Mathews banked 4 and then 1 for the 5-0 win of the hill game.Visit InsidePOOL for the latest in the sport of billiards and pool.
