Rousey Wrangles the Spirit Tour UndefeatedLadies Spirit Tour / Spring Hill, FLby Rick DavisThe season finale for the Ladies Spirit Tour took place over the December 2-3 weekend, where billiard player Sarah Rousey went through six rounds to take the billiards event undefeated. Hosted by Capone’s in Spring Hill, FL, a 35-player field entered the $7,500-added event.
In the opening round, all but four players had a bye, along with one whose opponent forfeited. From there the field shrunk at lightning speed. Sunday afternoon brought the field to the top four on the winners’ side and had Rousey slip past WPBA pro Monica Webb double-hill and Tracie Hines destroy Debbie Schjodt 7-2. Next, Rousey and Hines met up in the hot seat match, where the petite Rousey came out on top 7-5 to reach the finals while Hines headed west.Bonnie Coats and Helena Thornfeldt were barreling towards each other on the one-loss side. Coats eliminated Ellen Van Buren 7-2 and then Webb 7-6 to reach the quarterfinals, while Helena “The Sledgehammer” Thornfeldt shut out Lauren Galen 7-0 and then knocked out Schjodt 7-3 to meet Coats. The quarterfinals match tipped each way before Thornfeldt gained control and took the 7-5 win. In the semifinals, Thornfeldt’s would-be comeback was stopped dead as Hines destroyed her 7-2 to reach the finals for a rematch against Rousey. Despite coming off of such a big win for Hines, the finals were all Rousey, who had a solid grip on match and came through with the 7-4 victory.Results:1st Sarah Rousey2nd Tracie Hines3rd Helena Thornfeldt4th Bonnie Coats5th Debbie SchjodtMonica Webb7th Ellen Van BurenLauren Galen
