Sambajon Successful at Spot Shots Joss Eventby InsidePOOL StaffThe Joss Northeast Tour drew 47 fine 9-ball players to its stop this weekend at Spot Shots Billiards in Portland, Maine. Santos Sambajon, Jr., came out on top, besting Carlos Viera in the double-elimination finals for first place.Spot Shots has 20 nine-foot Brunswick tables, a full bar, and a nightclub. It has been hosting the Joss NE Tour since they began six years and is very supportive of the tour.Viera lost his first match of the tournament and won nine in a row to get to the finals, while Sambajon went undefeated throughout the event. Sambajon took seventh place in last week's Joss NE stop, while Viera ended up in fifth place. Last week's winner, Karen Corr, who defeated Jim Rempe in the finals for first, was on hand with Julie Kelly, who came in fourth place last weekend, but this week neither ended up in the money.
After defeating TJ Laflamme in the hot seat match, Sambajon patiently waited for the next contender, which turned out to be Viera. A legend in the northeast, Viera won their first set by the score of 9-6. However, Joss NE Tours go by a double-elimination format. The final match saw both players going back and forth with few balls made on either's break. In the end, Sambajon just played stronger, and he won the match by the score of 9-3. The next Joss NE Tour event will take place at Pro Billiards in Albany, New York, in two weeks.1st - Santos Sambajon, Jr. $1,3002nd - Carlos Viera $9003rd - TJ Laflamme $7004th - Mike Zuglan $5505th/6th - Ian Costello (pictured), Shane Cote $4007th/8th - Darren Belliveau, Chad Bazinet $2259th/12th - Dave Hall, Mark Ransom, David Rowell, Rick Matarazzo $125
