On the Filipino front, Francisco Bustamante suffered a disappointing 9-7 first-round loss to Tan Tiong Boon of Singapore, but Efren Reyes, Leonardo Andam, Lee Van Corteza, and Warren Kiamco all won their first matches. However, in the second round, all four countrymen found themselves matched up. Kiamco triumphed over Andam with a 9-5 victory, and Reyes won his match against Van Corteza by the score of 9-6. In the quarterfinals of this single-elimination event, Korean champion bested Antonio Oakan Gabica of the Philippines 9-3, while Thai player Chatchawal Rutphae (picutred) eliminated Wu Chia Ching with a 9-8 decision.
