San Miguel Tour Down to Final 8 After the first three rounds, the San Miguel Asian 9-Ball Tour has whittled its 32-player field down to 8.  Held May 7-9 in Taipei, Taiwan, this is the fourth stop for the tour this year.  The final stop will be held May 29-30 in the Philippines. With seven hometown entrants o­n the first day, after Day 2 not o­ne is left.  Favorite Chao Fong Pang, a former world champion, was defeated in a hill-hill match by Vietnam’s Vu Trong Khai.  Hsia Hui Kai lost another hill-hill heartbreaker in the second round to Park Shin Young, and Yang Ching Shun, winner of the tour’s last stop, was ousted by Ibrahim Bin Amir of Malaysia in yet another 9-8 decision. On the Filipino front, Francisco Bustamante suffered a disappointing 9-7 first-round loss to Tan Tiong Boon of Singapore, but Efren Reyes, Leonardo Andam, Lee Van Corteza, and Warren Kiamco all won their first matches.  However, in the second round, all four countrymen found themselves matched up.  Kiamco triumphed over Andam with a 9-5 victory, and Reyes won his match against Van Corteza by the score of 9-6. In the quarterfinals of this single-elimination event, Korean champion bested Antonio Oakan Gabica of the Philippines 9-3, while Thai player Chatchawal Rutphae (picutred) eliminated Wu Chia Ching with a 9-8 decision.  Warren Kiamco and Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
