Savvy Song Surprises Archer
J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour / Atlanta, GA
by InsidePOOL Staff
The J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour’s finale event for the year took place March 24-25 at Mr. Cues Billiards in Atlanta, GA. Boasting a $3,000-added purse, this stop brought a top field of 46 out, with Paul Song winning in the finals over Johnny “The Scorpion” Archer.
The tour’s awards were given out at this event, with Player of the Year honors going to Richard Broumpton. This is the second year he has held the tour points leader position, and his persistent abilities, integrity, and character are an asset to any tour. The Sportsmanship Award went to Scott Townsend, with Rick Sanchez scoring the Most Improved Player award. Gail Grecar earned the Highest Lady Tour Points, Anthony Meglino won the most points in the Junior division, and John DiToro earned Highest Senior Tour Points.
Local talent Steve Moore, who recently won the 9-ball banks division at the Derby City Classic, came up through the one-loss side to challenge one-pocket master Cliff Joyner in the quarterfinals. After dusting Joyner 9-2, Moore went on to face Song, who was recently delivered to the left side of the chart courtesy of Archer, who won the hot seat match over Song 9-3. Determined to force a rematch, Song sent Moore packing 9-7 to advance to the finals, where he defeated Archer 11-8.
