Scott Frost Takes One-Pocket Event at Carolina’s OpenThe final day of the one-pocket event at the Carolina’s Open, held at Fast Eddie’s in Goldsboro, SC, saw Scott “The Freezer” Frost crowned the victor. Frost, whose primary game is one-pocket, is also a strong 9-ball contender. After whittling down the field of 56 of the strongest one-pocket players in the world, David Gutierrez and Brian Jones matched up to determine third place. With the game tied up 2-all and down to the last 5 balls on the table, Gutierrez needed two balls to take the win. Both shooters were playing it close, both trying for shooting position but each trying to keep the other from making a winning shot. Finally Jones took a shot that didn’t go exactly as he wanted. one mistake was enough, and Gutierrez closed the match with a 3-2 win. Jones took third place, and Gutierrez moved on to the final match-up with Frost.Gutierrez won the toss and took the first break in the final race to five. He ran the table for the first game and then moved right on to the second with a quick win. The third rack was almost a repeat and was looking like a potential upset. Heavy money was on Frost to take the finals, and some observers were beginning to wonder if they had made the right decision. At that point, the match turned around, and Frost scooped up the next five games in a row. Smiling the whole way, each shot was well-planned and defensive shots were in the right place every time. He won the final match 5-3 for the first-place prize money of $1,700.Results:1st Scott Frost $1,7002nd David Gutierrez $1,2003rd Brian Jones $9504th Rodney Morris $7005th Dennis Hatch, Jeremy Jones $5007th Tony Chohan, Norris Brady $3009th Danny Basavich, Larry Nevel, Josh Degler, Dave Bollman $150Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
