Seagraves and Sikes Win on Viking TourViking Cue 9-Ball Tour / Goose Creek, SCby InsidePOOL StaffWith only ten days’ notice to inform players about the Goose Creek, SC, tournament, the Viking Tour’s one-of-a-kind promotional program came through with flying colors, proving its strength in promoting 9-ball tournaments. Fifty-one players showed their support for the event, with Donnie Seagraves Jr. and Billy Sykes winning the open and amateur events, respectively.
Weekends Pub hosted the event, and room owners Pat Scott and Herman Stiles stated they were impressed with the turnout of players and spectators alike and agreed to host additional Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour events in the near future. The location is huge, featuring 21 seven-foot bar tables, a full bar and menu, and a large stage with live bands on most weekends. The pool tables are a minimum of 10 feet apart, which was great for both players and spectators. Of the 51 players in the event, 6 junior players and 6 women took advantage of the free entry and tour card fees offered in the new program from the Viking Tour. Additionally, three military discounts, another new program from the Viking Tour, of free tour card fees were taken advantage of at the event. Two Air Force and one Navy player participated in the event as a result of the Active Military Discounts program. Because it was new territory, the Viking Tour also offered a $10 discount for any current league player at the Goose Creek event, and 18 local league players stepped up for the challenge. Because of the large amount of tables offered by Weekends Pub, the tour was able to get down to only eight players returning at 1 p.m. Sunday for the open division play. At noon Sunday, the $500-added amateur event begins. Seagraves Jr., one of the final four undefeated, matched up with John Stallings—after a nail-biting double-hill match, Seagraves advanced to the hot seat match. There he played Larry Jackson and won easily, sending Jackson to the one-loss side 9-2.After his loss to Seagraves, Stallings met Leil Gay and defeated him 9-7 to move on to the quarterfinals against Mike Staubes, whom he was able to best 9-7. With an eye on revenge, Stallings faced off against Jackson in the semifinals and won 9-5 to go on to the rematch against Seagraves; anything but intimidated, Seagraves handled him easily and sent him packing 9-3.In Sunday’s amateur event, 24 players showed up to participate, with Billy Sikes of Savannah, GA, besting Mike Basha in the finals to win 6-1.Results:1st Donnie Seagraves Jr.2nd John Stallings3rd Larry Jackson4th Mike Staubes5th Leil GayJR Rossman7th Jimmy LewellynVal Cruz9th John RoseBilly SikesJeff HatonDaniel Kusnerak
