In the 14th and final round of the Derby City Classic in Louisville, KY, Shannon "The Cannon" Daulton defeated "Mad Max" Eberle 7-3. Eberle started off strong, cruising to a 3-0 lead. In the fourth game, he tried to play safe and left a shot for Daulton, who took control of the entire match at that point. Daulton ran out that rack, ran the next rack, played a safe on the 1 ball in the next, and then ran the seventh rack to take the lead at 4-3. For the most part, Eberle was playing really well, but Daulton ultimately overpowered him and won the next three games to win the set and the first-place title.
In Round 13 of the 9-ball event earlier Saturday evening, there was a rematch between Ralf "The Surgeon" Souquet and Eberle. The other semifinal match was between Johnny Archer and Shannon Daulton. Eberle and his opponent traded racks for most of the match until he reached the hill, with Souquet at 5. Eberle left himself a difficult cut shot on the 8 ball, which he made to get good shape on the 9, at which point Souquet graciously conceded. Across the way, the Archer-Daulton match was equally tight. Daulton gained the lead and pulled ahead to 5-2 before Archer, whose game right now appears excellent, ran a couple of racks to tie the score at 5-all. Archer got on the hill after Daulton missed a crossbank on the 2 in the eleventh game, but then he missed a 6-9 carom and seemed deflated after that. Daulton won that rack and ran the next for the win and to go on to face Eberle in the finals. Accu-Stats Video Production video taped the matches over the entire tournament.
