Slivka Takes Second Billiard WinJoss Northeast 9-Ball Tour / Clifton Park, NYby Rick DavisAfter last week’s undefeated win on the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour, Jerry Slivka returned in search of his second billiards title. After a tough defeat early on, Slivka pushed through four matches to reach the finals and claim another tour victory. The action filled 36-player field met at Trick Shot Billiards in Clifton Park, NY, for the October 21-22 event.
The winners’ side top four featured Ryan McCreesh versus Jason Michas, along with Gary Poulton against Sean Graham. Graham smacked down Poulton with a 9-3 defeat, while Michas took only slightly longer to defeat McCreesh 9-5. In the hot seat match neither player could gain much ground, although Michas took the initiative double-hill to win.On the one-loss side the field continued to narrow. Slivka eliminated Canada’s Eric Hjorleifson 9-3, while Dan Heidrich gave Seth Delvillano a 9-4 defeat. Another pair of pink slips went out the next round as Slivka drilled McCreesh 9-0 and Heidrich stayed alive besting Poulton 9-6. Slivka then slipped through two close matches, eliminating Heidrich 9-7 then Graham 9-6 to reach the finals. The previous event had the players in opposite roles, but this time around Michas seemed to be the favorite going into the true double-elimination format. Slivka took an early lead and kept it to take the first match 9-6, then in the final match the 7-all score folded to Slivka, who took control yet again for a 9-6 finish. The huge comeback for Slivka proved his ownership of the Joss Tour, at least until the next stop.Results:1st Jerry Slivka2nd Jason Michas3rd Sean Graham4th Dan Heidrich5th Gary PoultonRyan McCreesh7th Seth DelvillanoEric Hjorleifson
