Slivka and Rhee Undefeated in Rockville

Tearing up the competition on the Tiger Tour, Jerry Slivka bested the open division while Sueyen Rhee did the same on the ladies’ side. Taking place at Orange Ball Billiards in Rockville, MD, the pair of double-elimination 9-ball events was held March 10-11.
In the open division a whopping 92 players threw their hat into the ring, although a pair of Northeast giants, Jerry Slivka and Shaun Wilkie, dominated the field as they found their way to the hot seat match after sending everyone else west. The match tipped toward each player until finally Slivka was able to slip away with the 9-6 victory. On the one-loss side Rob Palucho eliminated Marc Vidal 7-3 in the quarterfinals but was then stopped dead as Wilkie drilled him 7-1 in the semifinals.
With a chance at a rematch Wilkie attempted to keep pace with Slivka in the finals, but as the match moved on Slivka took more of a lead. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel Slivka then turned on the power shooting to an 11-6 finish to claim the event.
Over in the ladies’ division a 19-player field exploded, and when the smoke cleared Sueyen Rhee and Malea Haacke emerged in the hot seat match. After fighting for every inch Rhee defeated Haacke double-hill to reach the finals. On the one-loss side Amy Foster was making a comeback. After a first-round loss she took six matches to reach the quarterfinals, where she faced and eliminated Asia Cycak 5-3. Next, Haacke and Foster scrambled for their chance at the finals, and although it went double-hill this time, Haacke got the better end of the deal. With the finals on the horizon and both players faring well through a long day and several close matches, the lopsided finish was unexpected; however, there was no denying Rhee as she swept up the event with a 9-5 victory in the finals.
