Small but Strong Showing at the Florida Pro Tourby Rick DavisWith the hurricanes in the southeast, schedules were shaken, so the latest Seminole Florida Pro Tour event only had 36 entries out of the maximum pool of 64 possible. Held at Jewells in Gainsville, FL, this is the seventh stop on the tour.Early action saw Charlie “The Korean Dragon” Williams lose a hill-hill match to his first opponent. Shortly afterward, Ray Martin won back-to-back matches, while Mika “Iceman” Immonen went double-hill to win his first match.
The tour’s twelfth-ranked Richie Richeson also took a first round loss. But it was not bad news for everyone. Mario Cruz won an early match, as Donnie Mills beat Luis Vierra 9-3.With only 36 players, the initial seeding of the 64-player bracket left 28 byes, which puts the event well into the second round with less than 5 hours of play completed. Coming in the next round has Lavoie verses Saez, who is ranked fourth on the tour as well as more matches from the other high ranked players such as Immonen, Williams, Morris, Martin and many others.Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
