Hosted by owner David VanMatre and director Mike Brubaker at Rich’s Roadhouse in Freeport, IL, the one-day event was held Saturday, January 21. The event featured double-elimination 8-ball on 7-foot Valley bar boxes, and David Coles Jr. of Beloit, IL, rated a 5 on a regional handicap system used, lost his first match and ran roughshod through the west side of the chart to gain a spot in the title match after eliminating Brandon Giberson 5-0 in the quarterfinals and Jamie Bowman 5-2 in the one-loss bracket finals. Cole’s undefeated opponent in the finals was Mike Dunklin, who bested Bowman 4-2 in the winners’-bracket finals. Having to defeat Dunklin two sets in the tourney finals, Coles continued his momentum by out-pointing his opponent in two sets—5-3, 5-3—for the title.Results:1st David Coles Jr.2nd Mike Dunklin3rd Jamie Bowman4th Brandon Giberson5th Jim FridleyRudy McGill Jr.7th Anthony GarciaKen HarvellVisit InsidePOOL Magazine for the latest news from the sport of billiards and pool.
