Souquet and Corr Advance at BCA Openby InsidePOOL StaffRalf Souquet and Karen Corr advanced into the televised finals of the BCA Open at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Souquet bested former World Champion Mika Immonen in a 7-1 thrashing. The match started rather slowly, with Immonen missing the first shot, and Souquet answering with a run-out. Immonen managed to capture one game during the course of the set but offered little resistance to the steady play of Souquet. After several games, a pattern emerged where Immonen would miss seemingly easy shots and Souquet come to the table to pick up the remains. The entire set lasted only a little under one hour.
Karen Corr had a slightly harder task in her victory against Helena Thornfeldt. Thornfeldt jumped out to an early lead only to fall victim to a few very costly mistakes near the middle of the set to allow Corr to the table. Corr, the only woman ever to sweep an entire season on the WPBA tour, wasted no time as she overcame some early mistakes to take control of the set. Just as she was about to close out the set, she stumbled by over shooting position on the seven ball. She elected to play safe and allow Thornfeldt to the table one more time. Thornfeldt turned that shot into one more win with an incredible jumpshot combination, but she ultimately didn't have what it took to turn the shot into a victory as Corr claimed the set on a costly mistake from Thornfeldt in the following game. Ralf Souquet will face Francisco Bustamante in the finals Saturday at 3PM PST, and Karen Corr will face Allison Fisher at 1PM PST. The winners of both event will take home $15,000 for their efforts, while the losers will settle for $7,500. Visit InsidePOOL for the latest from the sport of billiards and pool.
