Super Billiards Expo Begins
by InsidePOOL Staff
The 2007 Super Billiards Expo, an Allen Hopkins production, began Thursday, March 15, at the Valley Forge Convention Center. This annual event always brings out competitors from all over the country to play in the myriad amateur, professional, and trick shot events. And, in addition to all of the vendor booths throughout both floors of the convention center, the American Cue Maker's Association will be inducting Bill Schick into their Hall of Fame Friday.

The Gabriels Open 9-Ball Professional Players Championship event began Thursday morning with a full 64-player field. The format is a single race to 10 in 9-ball, a change from last year's two races to 5 in 8-ball. Number-one seed Johnny Archer squeaked by his first-round match over Brett Stottlemyer 10-9, with Eddie Abraham doing the same in his match with Hong Kong's Lee Chenman. Other double-hill matches included Ronnie "Everything's Funny When You're Winning Big Money" Wiseman over Tony Robles and Marc Vidal over Luc Salvas.
Warren Kiamco, Antonio Gabica, Santos Sambajon Jr., and Jose Parica are the only Filipino entrants in this international event. Interestingly, Kiamco and Gabica found themselves facing each other in the very first round, with Kiamco advancing with a 10-8 victory.
Other residents on the winners' side include Joey Korsiak, who bested Evan Broxmeyer 10-6; Russia's Evgeny Stalev; Troy Frank; Ryan McCreesh; Tang Hoa; Cliff Joyner, who posted a win over John Macias 10-6; Corey Deuel; and Mika Immonen.
