Testa Takes Home WPBA Qualifier Tori Hilty Erika Testa won not only first place at the New England Women's Classic 9-Ball Tour stop at Boston Billiard Club, she also won a paid qualifier to a future WPBA event. A small but determined field of 12 ladies arrived in Boston, MA, on July 31-August 1, 2004, to compete for the big prize, but Testa went through chart undefeated to take it home.Founded in 1990, Boston Billiard Club has grown from a single location in downtown Boston to seven clubs throughout New England. The menu has grown along with the number of locations, starting over 10 years ago by offering designer coffees and desserts to currently having a full-service kitchen and a fully stocked bar. Brunswick Gold Crown tables are situated comfortably throughout the elegant interior, which boasts highly polished brass and art deco posters.Tournament director Stacey Lantz made her way through the competition, keeping her focus on getting through the one-loss side to the finals. In the match to determine fourth place, Lantz and Chanthanom Inthsone went back and forth until the score was knotted at 3, when Lantz got past a safe to move ahead. Lantz was on the hill when Inthsone scratched on the break in the final game. Making a 2-9 combo, Lantz took the win with a 7-4 final decision.Meanwhile, Testa was withstanding Samm Diep's attempt for the hot seat. Although it was a close match, Testa was victorious with a 7-5 score.Diep then went to the west side of the chart to face off against Lantz in the semifinals. Racks were traded in the first half of the match, bringing the score to 5-5. With safties traded back and forth in the last two racks, each player waited for the other to make a mistake, and Lantz was able to take advantage of some errors by Diep to win 7-5.The final match between Testa and Lantz also started out going back and forth, but Testa soon went into the lead. There were many safeties throughout the match, often resulting in the game coming down to the final two balls. "We both played pretty good," Lantz said, "but when Erika missed a ball, I wasn't left with any shots." Testa went on to defeat Lantz 7-2 and to take home the WPBA qualifier.Results:1st Erika Testa $250 + Qual2nd Stacey Lantz $1503rd Samm Diep $1004th Chanthanom Inthsone $50 Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
