The Duchess of Doom in the Lead By InsidePOOL StaffAllison Fisher, ranked number one on the Women’s Professional Billiard Association, had an excellent win in Tuesday’s round of the BCA Open 9-Ball Championship event. The tournament is being held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV, and will wrap up on Saturday, May 22, 2004.What began with 64 players in each of the two divisions, men and women, has whittled down to 48 as of Tuesday evening. Many fine players were eliminated in Tuesday’s round, including Buddy Hall, Ronnie Wiseman, Dave Hemmah, Jennifer Chen, and Loree Jon Jones.
Pool’s leading lady Fisher was matched up with the statuesque Kim White in the Tuesday afternoon round. After her opponent scratched on a tough 7-ball, Fisher was able to take a 2-0 lead and never looked back. Up 5-0, she allowed White one game, but she then proceeded on to the hill. White attempted a 2-9 carom in the last game but hung the 9; after Fisher lucked in the 2, she cleared the table to win the match 9-1.Johnny “The Scorpion” Archer suffered his first defeat today at the hands of fellow 2003 Mosconi Cup teammate Tony Robles. Archer was down 7-2 in the hard-fought match, only coming back to tie at the hill when Robles triumphed 11-10.“Rocket” Rodney Morris and Max Eberle, house pro at Hollywood Billiards, treated the audience to an excellent match that was neck-and-neck for most of the duration. However, at 7-all, the Hawaiian pulled ahead to win the match 11-7.Model-material Jennifer Barretta was dealt her first loss by Gerda Hofstatter, and Helena “The Sledgehammer” Thornfeldt also went the way of the one-loss bracket thanks to Hsin Huang. The spunky Vivian Villareal was defeated by former world champion Julie Kelly, and Monica Webb and Karen Corr both progressed.Canadian champ “Machine Gun” Luc Salvas suffered his first loss at the hands of Finnish Mika Immonen, and Shannon “The Cannon” Daulton joined him on the one-loss side after his defeat by Alex Pagulayan.
