Top Billiards Seeds Move Forward as Monday’s Evening Rounds Unfoldby Rick Davis, InsidePOOL StaffAfter five of the six rounds today, the seeded billiard players are holding strong with only one, Mike LeBron, taking a loss. The seeds landed in a good draw overall with ten of them receiving a first-round bye. There is still a handful who do not play until tomorrow, but so far they all look good. No one is eliminated today because of the time needed to run through the entire board, and for most of the field, the one-loss bracket will not progress that far until Wednesday. The three o’clock round had the day's only forfeit as Johnathan Demet failed to appear for his match against Keith Schniederman.Discuss the U.S. Open 9-Ball ChampionshipU.S. Open 9-Ball Championships image galleryU.S. Open 9-Ball Championships Tournament Brackets
Two of the popular seed matches were with Mike Davis, who defeated Robert Hewings, and Charlie Bryant, who defeated Mike Fuller. For the spectators watching Davis’s match, the analogy of lambs to the slaughter came to mind, as Davis delivered an 11-1 thrashing. After several break and runs fans in the crowd said, “The guy doesn’t miss,” then after outplaying his opponent in safeties, kicks, and shooting overall, Davis walked away feeling good. Later in the evening Bryant had a tough time playing on the TV table but ultimately skipped past Fuller. Afterwards Bryant said, “I won, but it was ugly. That TV table felt was sliding and stuff—a big difference after practicing on the other tables. I think I'll be fine on the other tables. I won’t have to worry about the balls sliding. It’s like playing on glass compared to the IPT cloth, which I have been playing on lately.”Tomorrow's action will clear up the initial round, ensuring that everyone has played at least once, and then move into the next round on the one-loss side, where the first eliminations will occur, while those undefeated will continue to challenge the seeded players.
