Turning Stone Coming to Exciting ConclusionBy InsidePOOL StaffThe Turning Stone Casino Classic is coming to an exciting close as the field of 96 has dwindled down to the final 16 who will play for some of the $15,000 pot today. The Joss event started Saturday, February 19 at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY, with some of New York's best players leading the way. In the winners' bracket, Teddy Garrahan will face Frankie Hernandez, Dennis Hatch against Steve Tavernier, Ryan McCreesh versus Jose Parica, and the surprise match up of Mark Ranson against Lyn Wechsler. Ransom started his play with a win over Tom Pound, followed by three straight blowouts over Doug Laplant, Jay Stevens, and tournament director Mike Zuglan. Wechsler's opening-round match was tight, as he barely slipped by Scott Ireland 9-8. After the nailbiter, he calmly bested Dave Peacock and Carlos Vieira 9-5, followed by a 9-6 win over Joe Tucker. Hernandez' first-round bye was well deserved, especially because he faced contenders in the following three matches. After a 9-7 win over Mike Wallace, Hernandez bested Joey Korsiak 9-5, followed by a 9-7 win over McCready. His Sunday opponent is Teddy Garrahan, who dominated each of his opponents, earning three straight 9-1 victories and then a 9-6 win over Jeff Kennedy. The one-loss side also has a number of competitors who could easily be standing in the winner's circle tonight. That field includes Sambajon, Davis, Gary Empey, and Ronnie Wiseman. Visit InsidePOOL for a complete recap of the Turning Stone Casino Classic.
