U.S. Open Back on Track

U.S. Open Back on Track By InsidePOOL StaffThe 28th annual U.S. Open is back on track here in Chesapeake, VA. After yesterday's bout with Hurricane Isabel, much of the area is still without power, but the Chesapeake Conference Center is up and running. Matches began this afternoon at 2 p.m. in the one-loss bracket, eliminating many good players.Gabe Owen of Tulsa, OK, who was the runner-up in last January's Music City Open to Shannon Daulton, matched up with Sacramento player Timmy Hall in the first round of the day. Owen was down 7-3 and ran his way out to an 8-6 deficit. After three-fouling Owen, Hall managed to bring the score to 9-6. The two split the next two racks, and then Owen fought through his frustration to win the last four games to take the match 11-10.
Some of the more notable players that were eliminated as a result of the 2 p.m. matches are Ronnie "Everything's Funny When You're Winning Big Money" Wiseman by Los Angeles player Danny Petralba, Danny Medina by Filipino master Rodolfo Luat, and Marcus Chamat by Buddy Hall.
