UK Continues Impressive Run at IPT Billiards TournamentThe players from the UK continue to impress during Wednesday’s second round. The story that seems to be emerging is Jayson Shaw, the 17-year-old from Scotland who has been playing 8-ball for a grand total of eight weeks (before that, he played English pool). Shaw went through yesterday’s matches undefeated, winning over Rodolfo Luat, Tommy Kennedy, Tony Drago, Michael Zimmerman, and Adam Wheeler. On the first day, he won two and lost two matches. Archer had already lost his first match to Efren Reyes 8-5 in the morning round but was surprised by Shaw, who was up 5-2 in no time. Archer tied the score at 5 apiece, but Shaw had the upper hand and ended up the 8-5 victor. He broke and ran out half of his racks, too.
“I went on and off a couple of times, and he did as well, but I managed to pull through. I don’t feel any pressure, just get on with the game—you’re playing the balls. I think I’ll qualify within my group. I’m breaking quite well, I had a few problems, but that’s the way it goes.“Been playing eight weeks,” he added. His cornerman and manager asserted, “We’re here to win the tournament.”Karl Boyes, the qualifier from the UK, defeated Ernesto Dominguez by a whopping 8-1, Imran Majid bested Ben Davies 8-5, and Raj Hundal triumphed in his hill-hill match over Dimitri Jungo.“That was a crazy match,” Hundal explained. “I was seven-three and kind of ran funny in one of my patterns. I had to jack up to shoot a ball, but I needed to hit it thick to stay on line with the next ball and just caught the tittie of the pocket, you know, [the ball] jiggled and stayed up.
