Ussery Pillages Greenville Viking Cue 9-Ball Tourby Matthew PingorGreenville, NC - InsidePOOL Magazine’s 2004 and 2005 Amateur Player of the Year seems dead set on making a run for the title in 2006. B.J. Ussery continued his winning streak with a victory on the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour, which stopped at On-Cue Sports Bar of Greenville, NC, for the $1,000-added February 11-12 event. As the 35 players whittled down, Ussery faced Larry Pitman in the hot seat match. Battling on like the soldier he is, Ussery brained Pitman 9-5. The quarterfinals yielded a war between Ty Griffin and John Visotsky. Easily handled, Visotski dismembered Griffin 7-5. Now with the semifinals, Visotsky had a chance at the stable yet flawed Pitman. Maybe Visotsky labeled Pitman as an easy target upon the loss to Ussery. If he did, that was a grave mistake, for Pitman quartered him 7-3.
In the finals, Ussery was having trouble asserting his prominent stance after he fumbled against Pitman 9-3. Unfortunately for Pitman, this was a double-elimination event. Ussery drew forces from within himself that not even a Jedi could summon and won the match 7-1. He placed first and took home the filet mignon of $960.
