Defending champion Allison Fisher dusted Caroline Pao 9-0 in the first round and Helene Caukin 9-4 in the second, going on to face veteran Laura Smith in the third. Karen Corr, ranked second on the tour, is in the same position, having won her first two matches over Cathy Metzinger 9-7 and Anna Kostanian 9-6. Corr will play WPBA President Kim White in the next round.Jeanette Lee, ranked seventh on the tour currently, bested first-round victim Vicki Paski 9-5 and then Kathleen Lawless 9-2 to face Kim Shaw in the third round. Winner at this event two years ago, Ga Young Kim came up against a very determined Hsin Huang in the second round. They fought all the way to hill-hill before the former champ was sent to the one-loss side by Huang, who now will face Melissa Little.Newcomer Xiaoting Pan is having a great event so far: In her first-round match, she bested Denver’s Megan Minerich 9-3, and in the second round, she dealt Jennifer Barretta her first loss 9-7. Pan will face Helena “The Sledgehammer” Thornfeldt in the next round.In the one-loss side, Texas favorite Leslie Anne Rogers has already been eliminated, going down 9-6 to Thornfeldt in the first round and 9-5 to Melissa Morris in the second. The “Texas Tornado,” Vivian Villareal, also lost her first match but is still alive, having just defeated Jerry Engh 9-1.
