Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour Championships Down to Final Six By InsidePOOL StaffThe final rounds of the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour Championships have whittled the field down to six players, who will return on Sunday. In the one-loss side, Chris Szuter will meet Justin Daniels and Marco Marquez will play Will Slone at noon. In the hot seat match, Earl Strickland will match up with Shawn Putnam at 2 p.m.In the earlier winners’ bracket evening rounds, Marco Marquez sent Marty Lawson to the one-loss side 11-2, while Earl Strickland defeated Robert Chaperon 11-9. Shawn Putnam, Viking Tour’s Player of the Year, dealt Gabe Owen his first loss 11-9, while Will Slone sent Justin Daniels to the west side 11-10.
In the one-loss matches, Shannon Daulton continued on, defeating Fred Lane 11-7. Danny “Kid Delicious” Basavich eliminated Jose Parica in a hill-hill thriller. West Coast player Danny Medina sent Leil Gay home after another hill-hill match, and Chris Szuter eliminated Tony Mougey 11-9.In the 10 p.m. one-loss side matches, Daulton eliminated Gabe Owen in a hill-hill battle 11-10. Will Slone continued after sending Basavich home after a hill-hill match. Marty Lawson eliminated Danny Medina 11-9, and yet another hill-hill match saw Chris Szuter continuing on after defeating Robert Chaperon.The final round began after midnight and included eight contenders. In the winners’ bracket, Marco Marquez ended up succumbing to Earl Strickland 11-6, while Shawn Putnam had his hands full with local player Justin Daniels, ending their hill-hill match after Daniels fouled on the 6 ball.
